REVIEW: Muti - Troublemaker

A new company. I’ve picked up three sauces, all made with fermented ingredients and I’m starting with their Troublemaker, which is made from fermenting pineapple, Scotch Bonnets and red peppers, along with the usual garlic, onion, ginger and carrot. It’s a bright orangey red and you can smell the fermentation as soon as you open it up. It smells lovely.

To taste, there’s an immediate tang from that fermentation which turns into the pineapple flavours. The warmth is my kind of ‘medium’ with a slight sting on the first mouthful and then a pretty gentle warmth. I think I could eat this all day.

Maybe not. I’ve already got through almost half the bottle, and these are larger than the conventional hot sauce bottles at 200ml (Sarah said it looked like a Calpol bottle). The heat is fine though. Some sauces build and build as you go on, but this is still nice and warm.

What’s more, the design is great! Modern, colourful, bright, well-balanced - this has been made by someone who knows what they’re doing, I suspect.

£7.50 per 200ml / £37.50 per litre
