REVIEW: Muti - Deep Trouble

A bit more garlicky than Troublemaker, but again a strong sense of the ferment. I’m not getting a lot of chipotle or mango, which is a surprise given the name. There is a sweetness, but I wouldn’t have recognised mango especially, in spite of it constituting about a third of the sauce, according to the label.

So I would pick up this one if you wanted a medium-warmth, garlicky, fermented hot sauce - and this sauce will not last long in this house - but if you’re after those sweet mango flavours that work so well with chillies, this might not be the one.

Still, I’d eat these Muti sauces any day of the week. They have a range of other fermented products too - kimchi, kraut and spiced kraut - made by a guy who trained as a saucier when cheffing in Johannesburg. These Muti sauces are a real find - I’m going to dive straight into the next one.

£7.50 per 200ml / £37.50 per litre
