At the beginning of the year I hadn’t even heard of the Cayennetta but right now, as of 3rd July 2024, it’s just about my favourite of the pepper varieties I’ve got growing. The plants are vigorous and compact and attractive, and they’re covered in fruit right now.
The most vigorous are the two in the ground and in the 15L bag (to the right here). They're both around two feet tall now and growing bushier by the day. If you look closely at the picture here you can see dozens of little fruits coming. Even the experiment in the ornamental 1L ceramic pot is doing very nicely, in spite of the pot constantly waterlogging and overheating and there not really being enough space for either roots or nutrients. Take a look below. It's much smaller, but it's still got flowers and fruit coming.
What lovely little plants these are.
I’ve no idea what they taste like yet but I bought them because they were said to be exceptionally well-flavoured so I expect they’re going to be an all round winner. In fact, the only downside I can see is that they’re F1, which means the seed won’t be stable and I likely won’t get Cayennetta plants from them, so I’ll need to buy the seed again next year.
Aren’t they amazing?
